Eco Experiences: An Eggcellent Eco Easter

Easter is one of my favourite holidays; the colours, the traditions, the hopefulness of it all. But Easter, like Christmas can be a tricky one to navigate when you don't want a home full of plastic and disposable tat...and please don't think Ecologico HQ is either plastic or tat free!

I love Easter but I've always hated the commercialisation and waste (even before I was Green Queen) and now I'm more aware than ever of the issues with palm oil and toxic dyes, as well as plastic and cocoa, so we want to make our Easter as natural and waste-free as possible.

But that doesn't mean we don't have tons of fun:

🌼 Easter for us is linked to the garden: bulbs or seeds to plant, or even flowers or herbs for Squishy and Red to enjoy and care for. We enjoy a garden egg/carrot hunt; you can get reusable eggs and bags or baskets and we create a treasure hunt with handwritten clues that lead to their ultimate reward.

🌼We decorate the house with Easter paper chains, decorate a little tree with decorations we have (little eggs and chicks) and play pin the tail on the Easter Bunny and do egg and spoon races.

🌼Easter at Ecologico HQ is heavy on the crafts; either gifting craft items or making sure we have paints, pens, pencils, chalks, crayons means we can draw handmade cards, make homemade decorations or upcycle bonnets, paint your own egg or egg cup.

🌼 Squishy and Red get a gift rather than chocolate egg. Last year it was a wooden doctor set for Red and beauty kit for Squishy. This year they're getting an Easter sensory box to share with eco dough and Spring themed loose parts and a wooden picnic food set ( but don't tell them😉).

They also have some hand crocheted animal friends to find around the garden with small chocolate eggs from an ethical supplier. If you are buying chocolate, think about whether it is fairtrade, plastic-free or supporting a local business to make it even sweeter! 😉

🌼Easter entertainment tends to be garden games and outdoor adventures if the weather is nice; skipping, bubbles, obstacle courses and scavenger hunts followed by picnics or barbecues full of homemade goodies.

🌼Indoors we read Easter or spring related books, dye eggs and bake packaging free treats.

🌼For the grown ups we will gift candle making kits or baking boxes to make Simnel cake or hot cross buns.

All in all we try to make Easter about traditions and experiences and enjoy everything that Spring and time with family has to offer.

We'd love to know how you celebrate Easter and if you have any top eco tips for an egg-cellent Eastertime!
