An Attitude of Gratitude


A sustainable lifestyle starts with mindful living, and you can't be mindful without practising gratitude: the two go hand in hand.


So here are my top ideas of how we can keep an attitude of gratitude in our daily family lives:


  • Keep a gratitude journal.

  • Tell someone you love them and how much you appreciate them.

  • Notice beauty in nature.

  • Smile more.

  • Include an act of kindness in your life each day.

  • Avoid negative media and seek out inspiring content.

  • Cook meals with love, think of the people you will sustain.

  • Repay your gratitude: volunteer, help or give back where and if you can.

  • Write a card or letter to someone and tell them something nice.

  • Add to your gratitude list daily.

  • When you think a negative thought, try to see the positive.

  • Commit to one day a week when you won’t complain.

  • Try to take note when people do something good and give recognition and reward effort.

  • Live mindfully, not worrying about the past or future.



  • Take time to thank the people who are continuing to serve you in the community when you come across them.

  • Say thank you for the little things your loved ones do for you that you normally take for granted.

  • Display quotes and images that remind you to be grateful around your house.

  • Make a gratitude collage or board.

  • Make gratitude a part of family life by sharing it with each other during meal time.

  • Practise gratitude at the same time every day to make it a habit.

  • Focus on your strengths.

  • Share gratitude each day with positive social media posts or blogs (like this one).
